Anyway...back to hockey. Keep Lupul. Let him have another crack. He may play okay such making him either useful or tradable. If he gets injured he doesn't affect the cap on LTIR. Then buy him out next season and save the 4 year cap hit. The other 3 don't seem like buyout options so why bother. We can go 10% over the cap in the off season so can still trade for a piece if need be and still be OK once Horton and Robidas are off the books.
"Chicago has a very legitimate chance to land Vesey . . . His "desire" to be in the Northeast may be overstated. What people forget, is that just because his brother plays for Toronto, and everyone says they would like to play with their kin, it also brings with it a very specific set of challenges when one is fully in the spotlight and the other is not, it can create unwanted tensions between family members and lead to less than stellar performances on the ice. Chicago has a very simple pitch. We win cups. Championships last forever, and launch hall of fame careers. We have a spot to play with some of the best in the game and A REAL chance at winning a cup right now, unlike Buffalo and Toronto. Example A: Brandon Saad."
Always with the dig to TO.It was my source I mean are we even in on Vesey.

I've wondered for a while now if there is really a desire from the Leafs to add this kid. I mean obviously we'd take him, no trade, don't give up anything, ELC. But all the other teams (including the team he left) are saying "we have a top 6 role for you". That not something Shanny, Lou or Babcock would offer. Plus we have a lot of competition for Forward roles. I just don't see a fit. Unless he want to grow with a team. But not sure why he would leave Nashville to come here wit all those road blocks. Money will be the same anywhere, so it comes down to playing time, not sure he'd get as much here as other places

You are right. Leafs will obviously offer him the moneys, but it doesn't seem like his best fit. Leafs are not going to guarantee anybody anything. And...at Vesey's age his ELC is will be 1 year only. That means for him to maximize money he'd be best off playing with elite talent if possible. Buffalo has some elite young players, but they are essentially in the same boat as the Leafs as far as that goes. If you had 1 year to show big production numbers would you choose to play in SJ with Joe T or Joe P or you would pick Toronto or Buffalo and play with elite but young centers like Matthews or Eichel. To cash in on one season....I'd be looking straight to San Jose. Straight to the Pittsburgh Penguins. Teams like that. Multiple elite centers. Contenders.
I could honestly see him going to Chicago or even San Jose. poop, if I'm a winger looking to play on a contender and line myself up for a contract at the end of the season.... I'd like to have Jumbo Joe T or Joe P as my center.

I get JJ's point about Chicago's contender status...but on the other hand the odds would say they will be hard pressed to win again...the Leafs are due...
Although who cares about Vesey anyway, glorified Bozak

If Vesey matches Bozak's career that will be a success for any team who picks him up. Bozak is a valuable player.

I believe his ECL still has to be 3 years. It is one of he reasons that The Preds were so upset, because sign with them would have aleady knocked off 1 year.
As for who he'd rather play with. I don't care what anyone says to him, No playoff team will guarantee him a top 6 role and mean it. His agent has to be smart enough to know that at the very most they'll give him a handfull of games to prove himself, and then he'll be demoted if he can't perform. On a non playoff team, if he can't perform in the top 6, they'll probably still keep him in around in another role making it possible to reach atleast some bonus. A team in a playoff race will not keep him around if he can't perform. He'll get sent to the AHL and he can kiss his bonuses good bye.
